Time Speed and Distance — Speed (Basic)

Speed: The rate at which a body or an object travels to cover a certain distance is called the speed of that body.

Common units of speed are,

  • If the distance is measured in kilometers and time is measured in an hour, then the unit of speed is kilometer per hour (kmph).
  • If the distance is measured in metre and time is measured in seconds, then the unit of speed is metre per second (mps).
  • If the distance is measured in miles and time is measured in an hour, then the unit of speed is kilometer per hour (mph).

Note:

  • 1 kilo meter = 1000 meters
  • 1 hour = 60 minutes = 3600 seconds

The commonly used conversion are,

kmph to mps

mps to kmph
